Recently Anna was interviewed for a local magazine. While she isn’t always excited to be the center of attention, Anna did appreciate the opportunity to share her love of Kindness.

Anna has thrived in her role as a cashier. She benefits from facing challenges with support and appreciates the positive environment that her co-workers create each day.

Kindness appreciates Anna’s big heart and contagious smile!

While Kindness is committed to providing employment to adults with cognitive disabilities, the other aspect of our mission is equally important. We want our community to appreciate the gifts that adults with disabilities bring to the world. And we want our typically developing community to consider the valuable lessons that might be learned from spending time with adults with disabilities.

As Henri Nouwen states:

People with [disabilities] teach me that

• being is more important than doing,

• the heart is more important than the mind, and

• caring together is better than caring alone.

Each of our staff members is a unique individual with different interests, personalities, and strengths. However, people with cognitive disabilities often have some similar tendencies. And while our society usually focuses on their deficits, it’s a powerful shift in perspective to notice their strengths.

There’s a lot to be learned from people who give and receive love so well.
